Middle school is the time when young people make critical decisions about who they are and who they can be. These decisions take root in who they know, what they experience, and how they define possibilities for themselves, their peers, and their community. Why, then, do we make middle schoolers sit at their desks, away from the people and experiences that might shape their learning and their lives?

 

At La Luz, we are radically reimagining the middle school experience. La Luz is a bilingual, community-based, micro "un"school that prioritizes experiential learning, relationship building and character development. We, at La Luz, believe we can all human better and that learning can happen anywhere!
